Blackmagic MultiView 16

Now you can monitor multiple SDI sources on an HD or Ultra HD display or TV!

Blackmagic MultiViews are the world’s first native Ultra HD multi viewers that let you monitor completely independent SDI video sources on a single HD or Ultra HD display! With full frame re‑synchronization on every input, you can monitor any combination of SD, HD and Ultra HD formats and frame rates all at the same time, on the same display. When used with an Ultra HD television, the quad split view gives you four full resolution 1080 HD monitors on a single screen! You also get on screen audio meters, custom view labels and much more!

Choose from Three Great Models

Monitor up to 4 or 16 sources at once in Ultra HD or HD!

Introducing new MultiView 4 HD

Monitor up to four different SD and HD sources on the same display at the same time!
The new Blackmagic MultiView 4 HD model is a low cost multi viewer that lets you simultaneously monitor 4 different SDI video sources on a single display! Each view is a completely independent video monitor with overlays that you can turn on and off such as custom labels, audio meters and more. Full frame re-synchronization on each input lets you monitor any combination of video signals, even if they are different frame rates. The multi rate 3G-SDI connections are compatible with all existing SD and HD equipment and formats up to 1080p60, including Level A and B devices. Plus, you get both 3G-SDI and HDMI outputs so you can use traditional SDI displays or even low cost big screen televisions!

MultiView 16

Simultaneously view up to 16 independent SD, HD and Ultra HD sources!
MultiView 16 is perfect for larger installations because it has 16 independent 6G-SDI inputs so you can connect any combination of SD, HD or Ultra HD sources and monitor them all simultaneously on a single display! Router style controls on the front panel, along with the LCD and spin knob, let you adjust settings, route sources to different views, add overlays and more. Output can be set to a 2x2, 3x3 or 4x4 grid, and you can even SOLO any source full screen!

Studio or Live Use!

Multi source monitoring designed for broadcasters
Multi view monitoring is perfect for massive control rooms with lots of incoming feeds, for live multi camera production or for use on location and in tight spaces that don’t have room for multiple monitors. With Blackmagic MultiViews you don’t need to connect multiple monitors, dozens of cables or run extra power to see all of your video sources! Simply plug your cameras, decks, switchers and routers into the SDI connections to see everything with amazing clarity and detail on a single HD or Ultra HD monitor!

Independent Monitoring

Mix any combination of SD, HD and Ultra HD sources
Each view on a Blackmagic MultiView works as a completely independent video monitor. You get full frame re‑synchronization on all SDI inputs, which means that they can be any video standard and frame rate, and each input is completely independent of the others. You can mix any combination of referenced or non-referenced NTSC, PAL, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and Ultra HD up to 2160p30 on some models, all on the same display at the same time! It`s like getting 4 or 16 independent monitors in one!

High Resolution Monitoring

The world’s highest resolution multi viewer!
All Blackmagic MultiView models work with HD displays, while the 6G-SDI models also work with Ultra HD displays, so you get maximum compatibility with your existing equipment. That means you can use regular HD displays but you also have the choice to use an Ultra HD monitor for incredible sharpness! Ultra HD has four times the number of pixels of regular HD, so your video will look sharper and clearer than ever before! What this means is when displaying the 2x2 view on an Ultra HD monitor, each view is a full 1920 x 1080 HD resolution with no scaling! MultiView includes both SDI and HDMI outputs so you can connect to televisions, video projectors, broadcast monitors and more!

Advanced Monitoring Tools

Custom labels, tally, audio meters and more!
Blackmagic MultiViews feature advanced monitoring tools that can be displayed with your video. You get custom labels, audio meters, tally indicators and more! You can also choose which audio source is routed to the video output. The on screen source labels have a subtle, elegant design and resize proportionally based on the selected layout. In addition, you get anamorphic support in standard definition so you can view 16 x 9 anamorphic video sources in widescreen.

Multi Rate SDI Connections

Supports all of your SD, HD and Ultra HD equipment!
Blackmagic MultiView models feature multi rate SDI inputs with full frame re-synchronization and some models also have separate loop through outputs, making them compatible with your existing equipment. The SDI inputs automatically detect and re-sync SD and HD formats, plus some models also re-sync Ultra HD formats up to 2160p30. You get HDMI and SDI output, and MultiView 16 also includes a reference input connection and blackburst/tri-level sync for studio installations.

Flexible Design!

Three great designs to fit any installation!
The tough metal mini converter style design of MultiView 4 HD makes it perfect for use on the road or in tough broadcast environments. Simply plug in your sources and start monitoring! The MultiView 4 works with HD or Ultra HD and features a Teranex Mini style design which means you can use it rack mounted or on a desktop. You can add an optional front panel or use Ethernet for more control options. MultiView 16 is designed for larger setups in which you need to view more sources on the same screen. You get router style front panel controls, a spin knob and LCD screen that make it fast to adjust settings, add overlays, and quickly route any source to any view on the grid!

Multi MultiViews

Create customized views with even more sources!
Blackmagic MultiView 4 handles 4 sources in an incredibly compact size, however if you have more sources, you can combine multiple MultiViews together to create customized displays! Simply daisy chain two together by connecting the output of one MultiView 4 to one of the inputs on another. That means you can now monitor seven sources at once, all on the same display! There’s no limit to how many units you can combine together to create your own customized display!

Optional Front Panel Controls

Works with Teranex Mini Smart Panels!
Blackmagic MultiView 4 works with the optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel so you can add front panel controls to your MultiView 4! Installation is as simple as swapping the front panel and, once installed, it’s even easier to set up and adjust settings on the fly! The Smart Panel features dedicated buttons, a built in LCD screen and a spin knob so you can turn on custom labels, audio meters, borders, tally and more! You can even adjust settings such as the IP address and output video format right from the front panel!

Teranex Mini Size

Use all the accessories for Teranex Mini!
MultiView 4 is the same size as Blackmagic Design’s Teranex Mini range of 12G-SDI converters. This means you can use the Teranex Mini Rack Shelf for rack mounting the MultiView 4 and even combine multiple MultiView 4 models on the same rack shelf, or combine with a mix of Teranex Mini converters and MultiViews. The choice is yours! If you are in critical broadcast environments where you need to be able to change settings at any time then you can also add the Teranex Mini Smart Panel. This gives you full access to all MultiView 4 settings in easy to use graphical menus that are simpler and faster to use than the switches on the default panel.

External “Router” Control

Supports Videohub router protocol for easy external control!
MultiView 16 emulates a Blackmagic Videohub router so you get full compatibility with all of the external Videohub software and hardware control panels for routing any of the inputs onto any of the monitoring views! Both models can also be controlled via the included software utility on Mac or Windows computers so you can quickly change settings remotely if access to the front panel is restricted! You can even add on screen labels and other settings remotely!

Fade: A gradual increase in video, i.e. a fade-in, or a gradual decrease in video, i.e. a fadeout.

Fast File: A video segment with entry and exit points but that is not interrupted by edited-in video clips.

Fiber Optic Cable: Glass, plastic, or hybrid fiber cable that transmits digital signals as light pulses.

First Person: A video told from the primary subject`s perspective. Firstperson videos most often include the word.

Front Screen Projection: This option allows an image to be projected onto a screen or sail from the front of the room. The unit itself is placed within or behind the audience.

F/Stop: A rating often applied to scrims used in the film and video industries on their ability to dim light. This rating is directly related to a camera`s ability to allow for the admittance of light.

Gray Scale: The ability for a video display to reproduce a neutral image color with a given input at various levels of intensity.

Hanging Dots: An artifact of composite video signals that appears as a stationary, zipper-like, horizontal border between colors.

High-Definition(HD, High-Def): An image that has a higher resolution and is clearer than other formats. It is widely accepted that 720p is the "bottom-end" on HD.

HDCP: High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection. Created by Intel, HDCP is used with HDTV signals over DVI and HDMI connections and on D-Theater D-VHS recordings to prevent unauthorized duplication of copyright material.

HDR: Hard-Drive Recorder. Device that uses a computer hard drive to store compressed digital audio and video signals.

HDMI: HDTV connection format using a DVI interface that transfers uncompressed digital video with HDCP copy protection and multichannel audio.

HDTV: High-Definition Television. The high-resolution subset of our DTV system. The FCC has no official definition for HDTV. The ATSC defines HDTV as a 16:9 image with twice the horizontal and vertical resolution of our existing system, accompanied by 5.1 channels of Dolby Digital audio. The CEA defines HDTV as an image with 720 progressive or 1080 interlaced active (top to bottom) scan lines. 1280:720p and 1920:1080i are typically accepted as high-definition scan rates.

High Gain Screen: Material that reflects more light than a reference material Increases a projector`s light output at the expense of uniformity.

IEEE 1394: Networking standard for PCs. Combined with 5C copy protection, is used as a two-way connection to transfer the MPEG-compressed digital bitstreams between consumer electronics items, including HDTV tuners and displays, D-VHS recorders, DVD players, and DBS receivers. Also called FireWire, iLink.

In Sync: When the picture and sound are synchronized perfectly.

Incue/Inq/In-Point: These words all refer to the initial few seconds of audio signifying the beginning of the production.

Interlace: Process of alternating scan lines to create a complete image. In CRT displays, every second field/frame is scanned between the first field/frame. The first field represents the odd lines the second field represents the even lines. The fields are aligned and timed so that, with a still image, the human eye blurs the two fields together and sees them as one. Interlace scanning allows only half the lines to be transmitted and presented at any given moment. A 1080i HD signal transmits and displays only 540 lines per 60th of a second. 480i NTSC transmits and displays only 240 lines per 60th of a second. Motion in the image can make the fields noticeable. Interlaced images have motion artifacts when two fields don`t match to create the complete frame, often most noticeable in film-based material.

Keystone: A form of video image distortion in which the top of the picture is wider than the bottom, or the left is taller than the right, or vice versa. The image is shaped like a trapezoid rather than a rectangle.

Laser Disc: Now-defunct 12-inch disc format with excellent analog, FMrecorded video image, and either analog or CD-quality PCM-encoded audio. Later discs used one of the analog channels to record an RF-modulated Dolby Digital/AC3 soundtrack and/or used the PCM tracks to encoded a DTS soundtrack.

LCD: Liquid Crystal Display. A display that consists of two polarizing transparent panels and a liquid crystal surface sandwiched in between. Voltage is applied to certain areas, causing the crystal to turn dark. A light source behind the panel transmits through transparent crystals and is mostly blocked by dark crystals.

LCOS: Liquid Crystal on Silicon.

Letterbox: Format used widely on laser disc and many DVDs to fit wideaspect-ratio movies (1.85:1 and 2.35:1, for example) into a smaller frame, such as the 1.78:1 area of an anamorphic DVD or the 1.33:1 area of a laser disc or video tape. The image is shrunk to fit the screen, leaving blank space on the top and bottom. This process sacrifices some vertical detail that must be used to record the black bars.

Live Shot:Video broadcasted in real-time.

Live Special Report (LSR): A news story broadcast in real-time covering breaking news or a special event.

Luminance: The black and white (Y) portion of a composite, Y/C, or Y/Pb/Pr video signal. The luminance channel carries the detail of a video signal. The color channel is laid on top of the luminance signal when creating a picture. Having a separate luminance channel ensures compatibility with black-andwhite televisions.

Man on the Street (MOS): Clips of randomly selected people speaking. The name originates from the practice of news crews interviewing people on street sidewalks.

Matte White:Projection vinyl with a smooth white surface.
