RCF HDL 50-A 4K Used, Second hand

Ref. code: 1.02.292

HDL 50-A 4K : Active 3-Way Line Array Module

The HDL 50-A 4K is an active 3-way line array module for large-sized events, indoors and outdoors. It features a sound pressure level of 143 dB SPL with a built-in 8000 W PEAK, 4000W RMS Class-D four-channel amplifier. Equipped with eight best-of-class transducers, it offers excellent playback quality ideal for professional musical applications. The proprietary 90 x 10 degrees 4PATH waveguide with the symmetrical design of the cabinet delivers optimal coverage.

The Most Powerful HDL Array Ever Made By RCF

The 4K amplifier doubles the power of the HDL 50-A to achieve new levels of clarity and absence of distortion. Transducers work at full performance and the SPL output is more than doubled. Furthermore, we improved the power supply section with a tripled current level on fast transients, for a level of detail usually achieved only in high-end studio monitors.

Faster and More Powerful

The 4K amplifier is an essential part of HDL 50-A reengineering effort. The 4000 W RMS Class-D power operates at very low impedance producing a quick and detailed transient response, while the high damping factor improves sound quality and detail.
The HDL 50-A 4K power section is tailored to the transducers and the cabinet design to reach excellent efficiency, low distortion and high signal-to-noise ratio. The amplifier module features a solid machined aluminum structure that stabilizes the amplifier during transportation.
The control panel on the back adjusts volume, bypass, delay, presets and advanced functions. The signal input preamplifier features a double opto isolation to avoid noise and ground loops.

V-Shaped Symmetrical Design

The symmetrical design of the cabinet produces identical left / right coverage. The component arrangement and the special DSP crossover filtering of the HDL 50-A allow for a constant directivity without spots of break up or attenuation. The V-SHAPED front baffle provides:

  • Coplanar midranges and woofers
  • Controlled LF dispersion
  • Central space to host the HF guide
4-Path Waveguide

The custom 4PATH designed waveguide allows a precise coverage of 90 x 10 degrees, while also delivering a superb, linear high frequency response. The unique shape of the four ducts forming the guide create an ideal isophasic load from 800 Hz to the highest audible frequencies.

Neodynium RCF Precision Transducers

High Frequencies - Two ND 840 large format compression drivers are one of the key advantages of the HDL 50-A. The 3.0” voice coil allows for a crossover point of 800 Hz. The driver itself delivers a sizable portion of vocal range with better intelligibility.
Mid Frequencies - 4 x 2.0” voice coil 6.0”neo midranges - Water resistant fiber doped cone - Polycotton M-roll surround - High power magnetic structure
Low Frequencies - 2 X 3.0”voice coil neodymium 12” woofers - Water resistant fiber doped cone - Polycotton M-roll surround - Hypervented magnetic structure

Cabinet

The RCF engineers constructed an innovative housing consisting of rigid plywood and polypropylene side panels with integrated handles to lower the total weight.

Fly-Ware & Hardware

The integrated rigging hardware is both fast and reconfigurable, allowing the system engineer to create J-shaped and spiral arrays starting with 0.5° splay angles. The angling of the system develops on a single backbone. Up to 20 HDL 50-A 4K modules can be fastened on a single flybar. The hardware design let angle adjustments before use / on the ground and slip automatically into the correct position when pulling up the array. The system administrator has then only to fix it with a lock pin. Easy and fast set up. The heavy-duty front grille is powder-coated. A special transparent-to-sound foam backing inside helps to further protect the transducers from dust.

New Perspective On Linearity

RCF speakers are designed using a proprietary and advanced FiR filtering technology, conceived to deliver transparent sound, absolute clarity and perfect stereo images to the listener.
The special FiRPHASE filters allow to achieve coherent distribution of sound for all listeners without phase distortions, ensuring minimum latencies to the system.

Used RCF

RCF S.p.A. is a widely recognized Italian manufacturer of high performance audio products including power amplifiers, loudspeakers, digital mixers and digital signal processors (DSP).
RCF is an Italian audio products manufacturer founded in 1949. The first products sold were microphones and electroacoustic transducers (loudspeakers).
In the late ’60, concert sound was going electric, and many loudspeaker pioneers were searching for high-powered devices to use in their designs.
RCF was one of the first European OEM suppliers for international brands, thanks to the experience built on high power transducers.
After few years, thanks to the in-depth know-how in loudspeaker technology, RCF begin to develop and produce sound reinforcement systems under the same brand.
The introduction of the ART Series, in 1996, has established RCF among the few global manufacturers of active loudspeakers.
The TT+ High Definition - Touring and Theater series equipped with DSP, introduced in 2004, and the RDNet Networked Management technology, let RCF a full recognition in the professional audio market.
Since 2017, all DSP active speakers incorporate FiRPHASE technology, which allows achieving a 0° linear phase playback.
RCF is the first audio manufacturer to have a complete catalogue of 0° phase-compatible sound systems including line arrays.

Efficiency Rating: Level of sound output measured at a prescribed distance with a standard input power. Efficiency rating standard is 1 watt (2.83V at 8 ohms) at 1 meter over a specified frequency range and is measured in decibels.

Equalization: Loosely, any type of relative frequency adjustment. Specifically, the process of changing the frequency balance of an electrical signal to alter the acoustical output.

Equalizer: A component designed to alter the frequency balance of an audio signal. Equalizers may be graphic, parametric, or a combination of both.

Fade: A gradual increase in audio, i.e. a fade-up, or a gradual decrease in audio, i.e. a fade-down.

Feedback: The transmission of current or voltage from the output of a device back to the input, where it interacts with the input signal to modify operation of the device. Feedback is positive when it’s in phase with the input and negative when it’s out of phase.

FM: Frequency Modulated.

Frequency: The number of cycles (vibrations) per second. In audio, audible frequencies commonly range from 20 to 20,000 cycles per second (Hz). In video, frequency is used to define the image resolution. Low-frequency video images depict large objects or images. Higher frequencies depict smaller objects (finer details.

Frequency Response: A measure of what frequencies can be reproduced and how accurately they are reproduced. A measurement of 20 to 20,000 Hz, 3dB means those frequencies between 20 and 20,000 Hz can be reproduced no more than 3 dB above or below a reference frequency level.

Full-Range: A speaker designed to reproduce the full range (20 Hz to 20 kHz) of audio frequencies.

Gain: Increase in level or amplitude.

Gooseneck: This refers to a microphone with a flexible neck that is most frequently attached to a podium or lectern. It is designed to allow the speaker to raise or lower the microphone to a suitable height.

Graphic Equalizer: A type of equalizer with sliding controls that creates a pattern representing a graph of the frequency-response changes. Raising sliders boosts the affected frequencies lowering sliders cuts (attenuates) the affected frequencies.

HDCP: High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection. Created by Intel, HDCP is used with HDTV signals over DVI and HDMI connections and on D-Theater D-VHS recordings to prevent unauthorized duplication of copyright material.

HDR: Hard-Drive Recorder. Device that uses a computer hard drive to store compressed digital audio and video signals.

High Pass: A filter that passes high frequencies, and attenuates low frequencies. Same as low cut.

Hz: Hertz or cycles per second. Something that repeats a cycle once each second moves at a rate of 1 Hz.

Incue/Inq/In-Point: These words all refer to the initial few seconds of audio signifying the beginning of the production.

Integrated Amplifier: A combination preamp and amplifier.

Impedance: A measure of the impediment to the flow of alternating current, measured in ohms at a given frequency. Larger numbers mean higher resistance to current flow.

KHz: Kilohertz or one thousand Hz.

Lavaliere: A small microphone that attaches to clothing, allowing the speaker to have a hands-free presentation.

Line Array: A group of speakers that have been arrayed or "built up" in the vertical or horizontal plane, which allow for a highly consistent sound field. A Line Array is perfect for medium to large audiences.

Line-Level (Low-Level): A level of electrical signals too low to make the average speaker move sufficiently. Amplifiers receive line-level signals and amplify them to speaker level.

lockout: The final words of a segment used to signify the production’s conclusion.

Low Pass: A filter that lets low frequencies go through but doesn’t let high frequencies go through. Same as high cut.

MHz: Megahertz, or 1 million Hz.

Midbass: The middle of the bass part of the frequency range, from approximately 50 to 100 Hz (upper bass would be from 100 to 200 Hz). Also used as a term for loudspeaker drivers designed to reproduce both bass and midrange frequencies.

Midrange: The middle of the audio frequency range. Also used as a term for loudspeaker drivers designed to reproduce this range.

Mixer: This is the unit in which audio signals are directed from. A mixer provides for both mic and line input combinations while allowing you to control one or more outputs.

MLP: Meridian Lossless Packing. Encoding format that is able to completely reconstruct the original signal at the receiving end. No information is lost or discarded, regardless of how trivial it might be. Used to encode six channels of high-resolution audio on DVD-A.
